The running buddies program

GCAS and the Golden Isles Track Club (GITC) have partnered to create the Running Buddies program for the shelter dogs at Glynn County Animal Services. The Running Buddies currently meet every other Friday morning for runs/walks with shelter dogs, giving these dogs a chance to work off energy and socialize with people - both of which make them more adoptable. These runs/walks also serve as great publicity for the dogs. We wear reflective vests that promote adoption and take videos and pictures that are posted to social media to showcase just how amazing these dogs are! Plus, what’s better than starting off your Friday socializing with dogs and fellow dog lovers?

GCAS representatives and the shelter staff will select the dogs who are the best candidates for these runs based on temperament, ability to run/walk on a leash, appropriate energy level, etc., and arrange to transport them to the run location on select Fridays. We promptly get the dogs paired up with their buddy, and the run/walk begins shortly after 8am. Leashes, harnesses, water for the dogs, optional GCAS vests, etc. will all be provided - all you need to do is show up for a run/walk that will likely be the highlight of these dogs’ entire week!

The Running Buddies currently meet every other Friday around 8am at various locations around the Golden Isles. An email will be sent out at the beginning of the week of scheduled runs/walks with a sign up sheet and the location - so please make sure we have your email address! 

We’re called the Running Buddies, but no running is required! These dogs would be just as happy to walk, play, or even chill with you. It's a win just to give these sweet pups a break from the kennels and a taste of freedom and love. All you have to do is show up and help make a huge difference in the day of a life of a shelter dog.
