Jolene

Jolene is a beautiful 2+ year-old, 50-pound sweetheart with the softest grey coat and an even softer heart. She has all the makings of a loyal, gentle companion and continues to quietly wait for her person to notice her.

Jolene has spent far too long in the shelter environment after arriving in August 2024, but every time she gets out, she reminds everyone just how special she is. She walks well on leash overall, though she may pull a bit at first while settling into an outing. Once she finds her rhythm, she moves along comfortably and enjoys exploring at her own thoughtful pace.

During her time in foster (where she was affectionately called Josie), she truly blossomed. She was house trained, crate trained, rode well in the car, and knew basic commands like sit and lay down. She learned quickly and would politely sit when unsure—patiently waiting for guidance and maybe a treat. She also lived peacefully with smaller dogs and showed herself to be calm, respectful, and adaptable.

Now back at the shelter, Jolene continues to show her gentle nature whenever she gets time outside of her kennel. She is affectionate once she feels comfortable, loves belly rubs, and has a playful side that appears in joyful little sprints when she has room to move. She would best be described as a medium-energy girl who enjoys a mix of quiet companionship and short bursts of fun.

Jolene can initially seem a bit indifferent toward new people and may quietly observe before opening up, but this simply reflects her sensitive nature. With other dogs, she tends to ignore them while showing mild curiosity, demonstrating polite and neutral social skills. After a recent bus ride, she experienced a brief bout of stomach upset, likely due to stress, but quickly recovered once she had time to decompress.

Shelter life can make Jolene anxious at times, but outside of that environment she shines. Her intelligence, gentle demeanor, and trainability have even led volunteers to note she could be a candidate for service work.

Jolene has faced the uncertainty of being on the euthanasia list, yet she continues to show up with quiet grace and hope. What she needs now is stability—a foster or forever home where she can feel secure, build confidence, and truly settle in.
